Decree No. 147 of 2026, issued by Ahmed al-Sharaa, established the university as an independent body with financial and administrative autonomy, headquartered in Damascus. 1 Defence Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra called it the culmination of months of work and said the Defence Ministry would use it to develop curricula and prepare officers and non-commissioned officers. 2
In the 2026–2027 admission round, its land, naval and air colleges and its Faculty of Humanities and Administrative Sciences (management and economics, legal sciences, social sciences) are listed as open to men only, and applicants must be unmarried men aged 23 or under; its Higher Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology is open to men and women. 3
